A Brief History of Streetwear

A Brief History of Streetwear

Streetwear is much more than a trend

How it originated:
Streetwear is a subculture movement & has many influences. Going back to the 70's on the west coast, it was worn by surfers, skaters, & graffiti artists. It has heavy influences from the 90's hip-hop scene in NYC, while also being inspired by the nightlife of Japan. Streetwear is unique & ever evolving, & its origins were no different.

How it gained popularity:
Streetwear can be looked at as a phase in fashion, however, we consider it a cultural phenomenon. This is because it is unique in its growth. Rather than being pushed onto consumers by brands, it was sought-out by people who were yearning for different & comfortable clothes they could express themselves in. This idea, joined with the relaxing social norms for dress codes, pushed the style into being highly sought-after.

Why we love streetwear:
Streetwear is of the moment & it always will be. Since its roots are in "anti-fashion" it's no surprise that the public will always influence the evolution of its style, not the fashion companies. Streetwear is for the people. As a small streetwear brand, we intend to keep it that way. By creating original streetwear pieces that pull from the inspiration of west & east coast's histories, we always intend to bring you comfortable, creative, & accessible streetwear fashion.
